AfDB Agrees Country Strategy With Lesotho

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has concluded discussions with the government of Lesotho in relation to the country’s strategy for 2020-2024. Private sector representatives, development partners and non-governmental organisations were also consulted in the process.

The program will focus firstly on strengthening value chains for sustainable and inclusive growth and job creation, and secondly on leveraging technology for improved governance and institutional capacity. According to the country’s National Strategic Development Plan II (NSDP II) there are four priority sectors in the country: agriculture, manufacturing, tourism and creative arts, and technology and innovation.

Speaking on the strategy lead economist at the AfDB’s Southern Africa office George Kararach stated, "The assessment of the current strategy... has informed the preparation of the new one running from 2020-2024. It is worth mentioning that the two pillars of the new strategy are consistent with the NSDP II".
