Africell To Bid For Angola Contract

Telcoms firm Africell has announced ambitious expansion plans, with $100 million to be spent on mobile infrastructure and fintech services across the continent.

The firm already has 15 million subscribers across four African operations in Uganda, DRC, Gambia and Sierra Leone.

It is also planning to venture into new markets, with the firm’s founder and CEO Ziad Dalloul confirming the company’s intention to submit a bid to become the fourth operator in Angola, where a tender is expected to be reissued in the coming weeks.

According to Dalloul the firm has $300 million to spend on a new market, mentioning Angola and Zimbabwe as possible destinations for investment.

“Day one, we can just change the whole thing...drop market prices, expand into rural areas, provide faster, better service on internet. These are the things we know how to do. So that’s why we are keeping an eye on Angola,” Dalloul is quoted as stating.
