Botswana: Old mutual donates protective equipment

Gaborone — Old Mutual Financial Services Botswana on Monday donated personal protective equipment to Botswana Nurses Union (BONU).

Minister of Health and Wellness, Dr Lemogang Kwape said the donation was appropriate and would protect frontliners in the fight against COVID-19.

Dr Kwape noted that the supply chain for protectives had been negatively affected by the pandemic worldwide.

Procurement had become a challenge especially with most borders closed and airlines grounded, he said.

For his part, the company's acting managing director, Mr Daniel Matlhagela said the 13 000 masks donated were in recognition of the great work BONU had delivered over the years as frontline workers.

He said health workers were true heroes in the fight against COVID-19 which entitled them to being helped.

The donation was an appreciation of their efforts, he said.

Board chair, Mr Sipho Showa said the company had remained true to its promise of "a certain friend in uncertain times" which had been the secret of the brand's longevity and enduring relevance for over 175 years.

He encouraged all to remain committed to defeating COVID-19.
