SA's Western Cape to get its own Covid vaccine doses

South Africa's Western Cape province, led by the opposition Democratic Alliance, has said it will independently seek Covid-19 vaccine doses for its residents.

The national government has already procured 1.5 million vaccine doses to be delivered in January and February, with an additional 20 million doses expected in June.

The doses will mainly be for South Africa’s 1.2 million health workers.

But Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said the doses are not enough for the general population.

His spokesperson, Bianca Capacorio, has told the BBC that their first priority as a province was to the province's residents.
