Unions Petition Govt To Reverse Air Namibia Shutdown

Namibia's largest trade union, the National Union of Namibian Workers, is organising a protest in a bid to reverse the closure of Air Namibia and to call for the resignation of Public Enterprises Minister Leon Jooste. On February 12, the airports company withdrew airport access permits of Air Namibia staff members at all airports under its operations. As the nation continues to express dismay at the government's announcement on the liquidation, stakeholders in the tourism and hospitality industry feel such a move will adversely affect the lucrative tourism sector, which is one of the biggest contributors to the southern African country's GDP.
