Zambia hit by power blackout

Large parts of Zambia have been affected by an electricity blackout, the state power company Zesco says.

The capital, Lusaka, and the industrial centres in the Copperbelt have been affected, Reuters news agency reports quoting witnesses.

There has been a fault at the Kariba hydropower station, Reuters reports citing a Zesco statement.
