Zimbabwe: Son Fatally Stabs Father, Mom Battling for Life

A 23-year-old Harare man yesterday appeared in court for fatally stabbing his father with a kitchen knife before turning to her mother whom he also severely stabbed several times at the height of an undisclosed dispute.

Daniel Niyata Fissum was facing murder and attempted murder when he appeared before Harare Magistrate Mrs Yeukai Dzuda.

He was remanded in custody and advised to apply for bail at the High Court.

It is theÅÇ State's case that on Saturday the accused had an undisclosed altercation with his father who was employed by a UN agency in Zimbabwe. The court heard that the accused fatally stabbed his father Daniel Fissum with a kitchen knife.

After killing his father he allegedly turned to his mother Jordanos Zerom whom he stabbed several times on the back and chest and once on the stomach causing serious injuries on her body.

The court heard that the complainant was immediately referred to a nearest hospital treatment.

It is alleged that the accused's mother is in a critical condition at Trauma Centre Hospital in Borrowdale, Harare.
