Ballot papers for Malawi vote rerun set to arrive
Ballot papers for Malawi's next week presidential rerun are expected to arrive on Friday, according to the electoral commission.
Commission's chairman Justice Chifundo Kachale said his team was ready for the election scheduled for Tuesday.
The rerun was ordered by a constitutional court which nullified last year's reelection of President Peter Mutharika over irregularities.
Justice Kachale said the delay in the arrival of ballot papers was because of travel restrictions imposed over the coronavirus pandemic.
The electoral chief said government had promised to give the commission all the money allocated for the election by Friday midday.
He urged Malawians to give his team a chance to oversee a credible election and judge its work after the polls.
President Mutharika's win was challenged by his rivals Lazarus Chakwera and Saulos Chilima, who have now formed an alliance for the rerun.
