Botswana’s president leaves quarantine after negative test

Botswana’s President Mokgweetsi Masisi ended a 14-day period of self-isolation on Wednesday after testing negative for Covid-19.

He went into quarantine on 22nd March after returning from Namibia, where he had attended the swearing-in ceremony of President Hage Geingob.

At the time of his trip, Namibia had three confirmed cases while Botswana had none.

Botswana now has four confirmed cases of Covid-19, including one death.

From Thursday the country will enter a 28-day lockdown, after the president declared a state of emergency earlier in the week.

All citizens are barred from leaving their homes, except those providing essential services.
