India, Mozambique Boost Defence Cooperation
India’s defence minister Rajnath Singh has this week reiterated the country’s strong support for Mozambique during a visit to the country.
The minister was in Maputo for bilateral talks with Mozambique’s minister of defence Atanasio Mtumuke and the signing of three agreements aimed at boosting military cooperation between the two nations.
The agreements will cover cooperation in the area of surveillance of exclusive economic zone, sharing of white shipping information and hydrography.
During the visit the minister handed over two interceptor boats to be used for coastal surveillance. The ceremony took place at the Mozambican Naval Headquarters. Four members of the Indian Coast Guard team will assist with training, and maintenance and operations support.
He is also expected to speak with the president, the foreign minister and the interior minister during his visit.
