Plot To Assassinate Botswana President Uncovered

A plot to assassinate President of Botswana Mokgweetsi Eric Masisi has been uncovered by the country’s intelligence department.

Director-general of the department Peter Mogosi confirmed that the plot was being investigated, just two months ahead of elections. 

The upcoming elections have seen an increase in political tension in the country as former President Ian Khama has endorsed the recently formed Botswana Patriotic Front (BPF) following a split in the ruling Botswana Democratic Party (BDP).

The BPF has claimed that it is confident of victory in the polls. However, the BDP has been in power for more than 50 years.
