Putin Not Coming to South Africa For BRICS Summit - Presidency
Russia's President Vladimir Putin will not be attending the Brics Summit in Johanneburg from August 22 to 24, 2023 the South African presidency has said. The presidency announced that instead of Putin, Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will be in attendance, Jerry Chifamba writes for AllAfrica.
Earlier, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa had declared that any effort to detain Russian President Vladimir Putin during his Brics visit would amount to "a declaration of war" with Russia. The court documents for the case were made public on July 18.
Putin's arrest warrant was issued by the International Criminal Court at The Hague, for his country's war against Ukraine, which has been raging since February 24, 2022.
