Zimbabwe: VP’s wife arrested for assaulting family maid
Marry Mubaiwa, the wife of Zimbabwe’s Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga, was arrested on Saturday for allegedly assaulting her family maid at a school in Harare.
Ms Mubaiwa will be remanded in custody until 14 February, having been denied bail by a magistrate of the High Court. She is alleged to have assaulted her maid Delight Munyoro at the Hellenic School in Harare, which her children attend.
Ms Mubaiwa was previously arrested in December last year on charges of fraud and the attempted murder of her husband. She spent three weeks in prison before being granted bail. She denies all charges.
Vice President Chiwenga accused his estranged wife of attempting to tamper with his medical equipment while he was receiving life saving treatment in South Africa last year. He has since sought to divorce Ms Mubaiwa, barring her from their family home and from seeing their children.
In court, Ms Mubaiwa told her mother “They can’t keep doing this all the time” before being removed from the courtroom by bailiffs.
