Chiefs lose All Blacks flank for Super Rugby Aotearoa season

Chiefs flank Luke Jacobson's injury woes keep mounting, with the 23-year-old ruled out of the remainder of the Super Rugby Aotearoa season. 

Jacobson sustained a fractured metacarpal in his side's 24-12 home defeat to the Blues over the weekend.

According to the Super Rugby NZ website, the rehabilitation period is approximately five to six weeks, ultimately ruling the Jacobson out of the domestic competition.

The two-Test All Black has had limited game time since making his Chiefs debut in 2018. He took a knock to the head at the end of the 2018 Super Rugby season and made limited appearances last year.

Jacobson was initially selected in New Zealand's 2019 Rugby World Cup squad and travelled to Japan, but was forced to return home with ongoing concussion symptoms before the tournament kicked off.

Meanwhile in the Highlanders camp, assistant coach Mark Hammett confirmed that wing Nehe Milner-Skudder won't be available this week and it's still unlikely that flyhalf Josh Ioane will be back for their clash with the Blues in Auckland on Saturday.

Midfielder Ngane Punivai is back however, and available for selection.

Hammett also confirmed he will be finishing up with the Highlanders at the conclusion of the season, saying it was the right time for him and his family to move on.
