Luanda Set To Host NBA Africa League Matches
The NBA this week announced the seven cities due to host matched as part of the inaugural Basketball Africa League (BAL).
Backed by the NBA the League will see 12 teams from across the continent compete with one another. The teams will be divided into two six team groups and each play five group matches. The top ranking three teams in each group will then proceed to the playoffs.
Regular-season games will be hosted in Cairo, Egypt; Dakar, Senegal; Lagos, Nigeria; Luanda, Angola; Rabat, Morocco and either Tunis or Monastir in Tunisia. The finals will then take place in Kigali, Rwanda.
The announcement was made by BAL President Amadou Gallo Fall at a reception at the Musée des Civilisations Noires in Dakar.
“Today’s announcements mark another important milestone as we head into what will be a historic first season for the Basketball Africa League,” said Fall.
“We now have seven great host cities where we will play and our first partnership with a world-class outfitter. We thank our first partners NIKE and Jordan Brand for supporting us on this journey and ensuring our teams have the best uniforms and oncourt products.”
The League will begin in March 2020.
