The International Basketball Federation women’s AfroBasket is underway in Senegal.
In addition to Senegal the contest sees teams from Nigeria, Mali, Mozambique, Cote d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Angola, Egypt, Tunisia, Cape Verde, Kenya and DR Congo compete for the title. The tournament will serve as the qualifier for the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The Nigerian team have made it through to the quarterfinals following a victory against Cameroon with a 67-point margin. Hosts Senegal, Mali and Mozambaique have also qualified for the next round after they finished top of their groups.
The remaining four teams to qualify for the quarterfinals will be determined via a series of play offs.
Nigeria are the reigning champions, although hosts Senegal are 12-times champions and have been touted as favourites to win the contest this time around.
