Zim Tourism Minister Detained
The Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC) has detained tourism minister Prisca Mupfumira for questioning.
This is the first time the recently formed commission has detained a senior government official.
According to the commission Mupfumira’s detention is related to abuses of the National Social Security Authority (NSSA) fund uncovered in a recent report from the Auditor General. Before she was appointed to the tourism ministry Mupfumira previously served as public service and labour minister.
Mupfumirs also recently featured on a list of corrupt officials published by the Zanu PF Youth League.
Corruption is estimated to cost the Zimbabwean economy around $1 billion annually, according to Transparency International.
