Botswana Backs Kenya On UN Seat Bid

Botswana has agreed to support Kenya’s bid to fill a United Nations (UN) Security Council seat.

Speaking as he visited Kenya President Mokgweetsi Masisi said that Botswana would support Kenya on the understanding that Kenya would reciprocate when it comes to other international positions.

Masisi met with Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta at State House on July 23. Following the meeting the pair addressed media where Masisi stated, “Botswana will vote before Kenya votes itself in. This is out of a desire to further nourish our friendship because we trust you with your willingness to engage with our issues that need broad discussions at the United Nations.”

During the visit various agreements covering a non-double taxation agreement, bilateral trade, air transport and ICT were signed, in line with a 2016 Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two countries.
