Allegations of Match Fixing At AFCON 2019 Surface

Allegations that the Zimbabwe and Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) sides have engaged in match fixing during the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)| tournament have surfaced.

Madagascan media have reported allegations that the Zimbabwean’s 4-0 defeat to the DRC side was not genuine, with the Zimbabwean goalkeeper persuaded to underperform.

Officials from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are yet to respond. However, according to the report CAF is aware of the allegations and is considering ending the DRC sides participation in the tournament.

DRC are scheduled to face Madagascar on Sunday as part of the knock out stage that will see 16 teams go head-to-head to battle for a place in the quarter-finals.
