Madagascar Charters Plane For AFCON Fans
The President of Madagascar Andry Rajoelina is chartering a plane to transport football fans to Egypt following the country’s surprise qualification for the next round of the African Cup of Nations tournament.
Madagascar secured their place in the knockout round coming top of their group and beating Nigeria 2-0. Nigeria have previously won the tournament on three occasions.
The team will now face the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) on Sunday to play for a place in the quarterfinals.
President Rajoelina is expected to attend the match, with the plan carrying around 480 passengers and tickets costing around $600 for the flight, match and meals.
The DRC side secured their qualification to the final 16 after they placed second in Group A and are ranked 49th globally as compared with Madagascar who sit at 108th.
