Caster Semenya Fights Testosterone Ruling
South African 800m World Champion Caster Semenya is ready to lose her championship title as she continues to challenge a landmark ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) setting limits to testosterone levels for female athletes.
The ruling means that in order to compete at the IAAF World Championships in Doha this September Semenya she would have to take a course of drugs to lower her testosterone levels before the competition. However, Semenya has made it clear that she intends to defy enforced medication for athletes with Differences in Sexual Development (DSD).
In order to contest the requirement she must now launch an appeal at the Swiss Federal Tribunal by the end of the month.
Meanwhile the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) has stated that athletes with DSD such as Caster Semenya are able to participate in the men’s events, should they choose not to medically lower their testosterone levels.
