The defending champions in the African Cup of Nations (AFCON), Cameroon’s Indomitable Lions have secured a 2-0 victory against Guinea Bissau in their first match of the tournament.

Players Stephane Bahoken and Yaya Banana scored the winning goals.

The fixture was followed by a 2-2 draw between Ghana and Benin, with Andre Ayew and Jordan Ayew scoring for Ghana and Mickael Pote landing both of Benin’s goals.

The tournament now progresses to the second round of group matches with Group A and B returning to the field on Wednesday. In Group A Uganda is set to take on Zimbabwe, with hosts Egypt lining up against the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). As it stands Uganda and Egypt have both secured three points, while Zimbabwe and DRC remain on zero, having lost their first matches.

Group B will see the Nigerian side look to secure their second victory against Guinea, while Madagascar will face Burundi on Thursday. Nigeria currently sits at the top of Group B as the only team to have won their opening match after the Guinea – Madagascar fixture resulted in a 2-2 draw.
