Esperance Appeal CAF Replay Ruling
Tunisia’s Esperance say they will appeal a decision by the Confederation of African Football that the second leg of the African Champions League final must be replayed.
Esperance was named the winning team after their opponents, Morocco’s Wydad Casabalance, left the pitch when a goal scored in the 59th minute by Walid El Karti was disallowed.
The goal would have brought the score to 1-1. While the Moroccan team called for the video assistant referee (VAR) to check the ruling, the system was not working due to a malfunction.
If Esperance’s appeal is unsuccessful the replay of the June 1st match is scheduled to take place after the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) 2019 takes place in Egypt between June 21st and July 19th.
