Zimbabwe Cricket Team Suspended
The Zimbabwean cricket team has been issued with a suspension by the International Cricket Council (ICC) as a result of alleged government interference.
A statement from the ICC read, "As a consequence of suspension, ICC funding to Zimbabwe Cricket will be frozen and representative teams from Zimbabwe will not be allowed to participate in any ICC events."
The decision comes after the government’s Sports and Recreation Commission (SRC) suspended the Zimbabwe Cricket board and installed temporary leadership last month.
The ICC has called for officials to be reinstated within three months, with the prospect of a suspension review in October.
The ruling has placed in doubt the country’s planned participation in the upcoming men’s World T20 preliminaries and women’s qualifiers.
